2007 Community sports in football & basketball for youth under age 15 in Luyang were initiated by Community Sport League(Liga Sukan Komuniti), Council Of Neighbourhood for youth(Jiran Muda) and Friend for youth(Rakan Muda) in Luyang community. The two events were among activities for this year organized by Rukun Tetangga Kawasan Luyang on 24/8 & 25/8 at Likas Sukan Complex, padang 'C' and Dewan Serbaguna Luyang community hall.
Football boys 7-asides event 9 teams were registered during that day for the competition. There was a heavy downpour of rain started early in the morning but all the teams still proceed with their competition. And the basketball on second day for girls and boys 3-asides had registered 6 girl teams and 10 boy teams in competition.
Both events were successfully launched and was an attempt always to encourage everyone especially youth's involvement. Yang Berhormat Puan Melanie Chia Chui Ket, Assistant Minister for Sabah Kementerian Pembangunan Sumber dan Kemajuan Teknoloji Maklumat also Sabah State Assemblywoman for N16 Luyang was invited to witness the final basketball competition and to give away prizes for winning teams on second day. For fooball on first day also had the participation of wakil for Director of JPNIN, Jabatan Perpaduan Negara dan Integrasi Nasional to witness the competition. Among others who attended and helped were community leaders and KRT Luyang committee members as well.
Attempt to hold sports and activities in community will motivate more youth today with the spirit of unity as well as always keeping them away from many bad influences in the society. It shall help eventually to develop positive attitude and mentality among youth with all kind of challenges through sport & education that will prepare them to become good leader of the community tomorrow.
